In 1996, Valve delivered Half-Life to the world. Gordon Freeman's fight through Black Mesa and Xen was revolutionary in so many aspects: interactivity, story line, NPCs, modding and multiplayer. Did I mention multiplayer? You can't argue with the fact that there are 10 times more people playing Half-Life and its popular CounterStrike mod at any time than any other game (according to GameSpy, at this moment there are 120,276 people playing Half-Life and the next closest is Call of Duty with 12,159 players). But, after Half-Life's original release, Valve was relatively silent about a sequel until last year just before E3. They announced Half-Life 2 with a Sept 30, 2003 release date and presented their technology in closed booth demos at E3. It was huge. Amazing. Ground-breaking. The tech demo showed the physics of the game with objects that had their own mass and sound, and Gordon was sporting a gravity gun, and the graphics were leagues ahead of the others, and and and...

CrackerJack Level Design

Source: CrackerJack Level Design

Hey guys, another update . Abandoned is in Beta 2 stage atm, were doing some editing in lighting in parts and such. It is comming along very nice, expect some updates very soon.

Nightwatch level designing is probably the most fun I have ever had, very few limits and awesome texures equal a great time. I wish I could show you some images but unfortunatly its not going down like that. Heh. : P

In other news, 2d_Chris and Nay have released Custom CS maps, De_Dam and Cs_Pipeline. Some of the best CS maps I have seen in a long time, you can check them out here: http://nay.cscentral.com

In more news, I have joined the Ghost Ops mod, it is futuristic HL1 mod, they have asked me to help in the mapping department so I of course said yes . I was playing through the alpha today and was quite surprized about alot. The special effects (Particle system rendering of water shooting up as you shoot it, night vision and texture sounds for bullet ricoche.) Just amazing check out the mod here: http://www.ghostopsmod.com

Here's one more image showing the casings and magazines.

I would like to remind everyone that we are still looking for some help on the development team and accepting applications for build testers.

Stay tuned, we have more to come...

Weekly Update #5
posted by MJCS-gTFC- @ 16:49:14 | Category: Half-Life 2 Mods

Source: Black Dragon

This week’s update will not feature any media. Instead, it has come to my attention that there were a number of little bits of information that I have withheld without realizing how important they were. As a result, I would like to mention some of these points today.

However, I would like to start off by welcoming two new members:

George = Animator

George is an extremely eager individual. His attitude matches perfectly with the strong energy that is present throughout the team, not to mention the fact that he has proven he has some awesome animation skills.

ALE = Mapper

We finally have a mapper. ALE seems very interested in this project and I am sure he will be a great help to the team as a whole.

Ok, now we will move on to the information. I will start off by actually explaining what “Black Dragon” means. In the story, the main character will be a member of a Unity Special Forces Unit called “The Black Dragons”. As you can imagine, the title is meant to stress the individualism that will be present throughout the game. We will be showing a number of different sides of this character.

Additionally, though there will be a lot of emphasis put on action and strategy in this game, there will also be RPG features as well. This will only be felt in the character development. Essentially, there will be moments throughout the game where the player will have the ability to roam a base or ship and interact with the characters on it. This will result in solid relationships being built with some characters and rivalries with others. Essentially, the conversations will effect how characters will react to you in the field and in future conversations.

This is it for today’s update. We always look for feedback from the community, so please share your thoughts. Thank you and see you next week.

Once again the forums were wiped, I dont know how as I just came back a few days after everything went down hill. Apparently Ronan Hayes deleted them on his webaccount without consulting anyone. Our webdesigner, Gh0st, disappeared, and NC|7, my replacement leader also disappeared. Leaving the mod in the dark, without a leader or any form of organization while I was gone.

It's been a great year or so, and we're sorry to let you down, after a large team that worked so hard for so long, its sad to see a few idling members bring it down.

Goodbye, and goodluck to all,
Mith

We need one more dedicated mapper to join to make 2 maps for the release. Towards the end of the month you will see some movies and testing will begin next month towards the end. In closing I show you the final two Water Wars weapons for the mod.

Jason has been busy coding in new Alpha Bomb effects using his particle system and sprites made by SSJS. Check out these two brand new screenshots for charging and firing an alpha bomb respectively:

We also have brand new smoke trails for the homing missiles and the wasted missile, and here are three brand new screenshots to show off the new trails:

Do note that these are unaltered screenshots straight from the game to your screens, the glowy effect that you see is the CG pixel shading effect that Jason implemented. Our new modeller Va$h2k4 has also made his first model for MechMod which will make it's way into our first release. The following model is titled MK-II Monster, and it is a heavy duty mech from the Robotech series:
