A Letter to the Half-Life Community
Published on Friday the 30th April 2004 @ 16:00 PDT (GMT -8)
Dear Half-Life Community,
With the introduction of new websites to the Half-Life Gaming.com hosting, we enter a new era in hosting. Half-Life Gaming, hosted by the edgenetwork, has grown tremendously in the past year. With the start of new, more personalized service more and more modifications are staying with the hosting because of the service and the quality of the servers that they are hosted on. Given that we have had our share of problems in the past, we are still kicking and new measures are in effect to prevent this from ever happening again.
As we grow edgenetwork will be adding more servers to deal with the growing demand for bandwidth. We currently have 7 edge servers and this number will continue to grow as the network continues on its course.
Within the next few months, I shall be introducing new Half-Life Servers. The following modifications will be on there and changed from time to time: Sven Co-Op; Natural Selection Combat (Beta); Team Fortress Classic; and Day of Defeat. I will also be loaning a server out to the modifications that are hosted on Half-Life Gaming so that may test their new versions of what they are working on.
This summer I hope to introduce many new and exciting things. I will start getting even more involved in the community I love and have been apart of since 1998. The times are surely changing for the Half-Life series as Valve gets prepared to hopefully release Half-Life 2 and eventually Team Fortress 2. As more information is released about this, I will personally make sure that you, the reader, get this in a timely manner.
Also the addition of many new and interesting Interview and Reviews of a wide variety of modifications should give a new light to Half-Life Gaming. I hope to gain interviews with: Gabe Newell, Hostile Intent, High Octane, No More Room in Hell, and many others. If you are interested in getting an interview done about your mod or a review please contact MJCS for more information.
Also, the addition of new features like the Modification Database with a ranking system, polls, and statistics of the Half-Life Servers should be interesting. As this summer progresses, the edgenetwork staff will be working on a new backend for the entire network. With this improved backend more things will be possible to do. I have to thank Shawn and all of the edgenetwork staff for having to put up with my endless questions and well, attitude. Thanks guys.
Remember if you have any news about your mod or just anything that is related to Half-Life, go ahead and send it in. I will credit you for any of the stuff you send in. Also do not be afraid to start topics on the Message Boards, it will not kill you unless you start to misbehave and then I have to grab my crowbar out of my tool chest (Yes I really own a crowbar).
Thank you for your time and patience while reading this lengthy editorial. So stay safe and do not be afraid to try out different modifications. Because there is more to Half-Life than just playing the default mod that comes with Steam. Until next time!
Sincerely,
Mitchell J. Skurnik (MJCS-gTFC-)
